The show was born in February 2002 with seventeen schools enrolled to take part in the competition. Since then the competition has grown from strength to strength with over fifty schools taking part in its forth year. Currently in the competitions fifth year hundreds of students across the country will battle it out for a place in the grand final.
A celebrity judging panel decides who will scoop the £5000 prize fund. Past winners have included acts as Frank Sinatra, Tina Turner, Lionel Ritchie, Anastacia, Bob Dylan
Aretha Franklyn, Etta James and Shania Twain. The standard has been excellent, and this year is no different.
Along with the growing demand for the competition our resources are growing too adding to our high standards of efficiency and professionalism. Every day we are learning more and more and use this to our advantage. We are gradually expanding the competition every year and would be delighted to have your school involved.
In 2003/04 the word had spread about the Ulster competition so we started to expand into the province of Leinster. This is a separate competition with its own Grand Final and prize fund. Now in our third year we have many more schools taking part. A celebrity judging panel decides who will scoop the €1500 prize fund.

A 2010 Final to remember !

"Congratulations to Matthew, Abe and Kevin who blew the judges and audience away with their wonderful acoustic rendition of Jason Mraz' "I'm Yours" A song that has been massively popular this year proved to win outright with the boys version full of congas and harmonies. 3 out of 4 isn*t bad for St Patrick's Grammar who, yet again prove they are the ones to beat.
The production of Nicole Kell's version of Concrete Angel by Martina McBride captures the eye and the imagination of everyone at the Tullyglass House Hotel with her dancers providing the backdrop for a fantastic performance from Nicole as Cambridge House go one better than last year with 2nd place. Peter Thorogood and Jordan O'Keefe shared 3rd place with magnificent solo performances with a guitar. Peter's electric version of MGMT's "Kids" with nothing but a loop station and his guitar was a true feat of musicianship and a joy to hear, see and sing along to. Jordan's version of Daniel Merriweather's "Red" was simplistic and heartfelt and struck quite a chord with the judges and the ladies in the audience.
A great night had and an amazing audience who were very supportive of not only the act they came to support but every other act there. Thanks to all the teachers, helpers, staff, parents, supporters and of course the students for making it another Final to remember."
